Why doesn’t Howard Stern understand that ‘AGT’ sucks?

Howard Stern has made a sweet living out of being his own harshest critic. He calls himself ugly, neurotic, narcissistic and ill-endowed in the penile area. But he won’t admit it’s super lame to continue his gig as a judge on “America’s Got Talent” for Season 8.

I went to an “AGT” taping last year and saw Howard Stern in person. It was awesome. I mean, seeing Howard Stern and being in a screaming crowd of Stern Show fans was awesome–NOT “AGT”.

“AGT” is supa lame. Supa. And that was last year–before Heidi Klum and Mel B joined the panel as “expert” judges. Stern’s photo is now pushed off to one end of the “AGT” poster, and Klum’s photo is the most prominently featured. Blasphemy.

Forget the fact that Howard Stern himself bashed the show in 2010 after finding out that the “million dollar prize” was doled out in installments over forty years. Read the story here

Forget the fact that Howard’s satellite radio schedule gets totally screwed by his “AGT” schedule. (There were only two live shows this week and none two weeks ago).

The real tragedy of “AGT” is that Howard Stern doesn’t realize it’s beneath him. It’s a lame, cheesily produced, dime-a-dozen talent show–and Howard has to sit there and not call attention to the steaming lameness of it all. It’s hard for long time Howard Stern Show fans to reconcile that their hero would lower himself to something as lame as sharing top billing with the likes of Heidi Klum, Howie Mandel and a friggin’ ex-Spice Girl.

Stern has said many times on air that he does “AGT” for no other reason than that he’s a huge fan of the show and wants to be a part of it. It’s not that I don’t want him to be happy, and his “AGT” gig certainly gives me more material to write about, but I became a Howard Stern fan because of his brutal honesty, and watching him sit in the middle of a spectacle of cheese without calling it out is like Chinese water torture–and probably slightly more entertaining.

  1. You’re absolutely right. He hasn’t made the show cooler, hipper or more watchable by much. If anything it has dragged down his profile and made him appear a bit lame.

  2. Trust me he knows it’s terrible, he is using it as a spring board to get his own show on television. Life after radio will be his own late night talk show. Even the mighty Howard had to prove to the tv executives that the audience will accept him on tv and he can be suitable for such an audience. He is a great promoter and knows how to connect with an audience, also the main reason he constantly promotes AGT on his radio show so his fans will tune in and keep the ratings respectable.

  3. by the way….u get paid waaaaaaayyyy too muck for a fuck that only goes to work three days a week! shut up and go to work at your real job! AGT sucks ass..of all people you should know that…duh

  4. Frank has a point – he’s proving he’s got prime time appeal so he can get a better gig. I for one have found that his Sirius show has gone downhill between not replacing Artie and Robin being allowed to broadcast from her bedroom. He’s got nobody live to interact with in the studio besides Benjy and we all know Benjy is a tard.

I’m almost ready for his radio show to end and see what he can do in a new format.

    • I get what you’re saying–and if this really is just a stepping stone to a late night gig, that’s great. But why does it have to be a stepping stone made out of OLD CHEESE???

      • I didn’t mind him on AGT last year. But I agree that this year, it seems like the show is reaching too far. With Howard on board why would they even NEED two new hosts? So I predict this season is going to be a mistake on Howard’s part. It will be lame and sad and CHEESY.

  5. I would also be OK with it if Howard didn’t feel like he had to be “nice” about NBC hiring two twits like Heidi Klum and Mel B. When Howard admitted the Scary Spice choice was lame, then he was like: “Oh, I saw her judging on Australian X Factor and she was pretty good”??? AUSTRALIAN X FACTOR??? And then he tried to say that Heidi Klum was good? I was so glad Robin called him out on it.

  6. AGT is terrible… just terrible.
